Hip Hop Workshop and Tarerer Festival

12 & 13 November 2010

Songlines Aboriginal Corporation has been providing Hip Hop workshops across the state. The workshop includes working with established hip hop artists to develop songwriting and recording amongst Koorie youth.

The Tjimba Possums-Burns and Danny Ramzan fromYoung Warriors along with Meriki Hood came down to conduct the workshop at Winda-Mara in Heywood. They said working with the Heywood kids was the best workshop ever because they got to record a CD. The kids wrote their own lyrics and were enthusiastic about the workshop.

A CD was produced with Tyrah, Braydon, Kailah, Tara, Meriki Hood and a Warrnambool man as vocals.

We used the Winda-Mara vehicle to get to Killarney for the Tarerer Festival where the kids performed. The particiapnts were Kailah May, Tyrah May, Braydon Saunders, Simone Sailor-Smith and Sean Bell.

A big thanks to the Supervisors Laura Lovett-Murray and Tara May and well done to the kids involved and Songlines for coming down to the South West!

Master stonemason Alistair Tune from Camperdown is leading the restoration project on this unique dry stone wall construction.

Assisted by local community member Brett Pevitt and with clearing work being undertaken by our Budj Bim Ranger team.

Winda-Mara currently have a second phase submission into Heritage Victoria which we hope will be supported to allow the full restoration to take place before further deterioration occurs
